The Ghost of Lipsticks Past

I find myself thinking a lot these days about IRON LADY lipstick from Miss Selfridges. I think a law was passed in my small town in about 1980, requiring every single girl over the age of 9 to buy this lipstick and carry it with her at all times.

I wonder if they still sell it. I wonder in fact if Miss Selfridges still exists.
I wonder if it ever existed or if I made it up.

I am reading “The Missing” by Andrew O’Hagen ( again) It is fantastic, but
it drags me back to the past. More on that so watch this space.

  • we carried BONNE BELLE (spelling mistake, perhaps) LIP SMACKERS. I had DR. PEPPER flavor. and we carried them in our pockets. In our back jeans pocket, we had a great big comb. Like huge…. maybe with our name printed on it.

for me, bonnie bell (spelling mistake, perhaps) lipsmacker dr. pepper reminds me of christmas….
