Today’s the day! Our town has it’s summer festival, stalls and games.
Yakisoba, kakigori, hotdogs, ramine in glass bottles with a marble in the neck. dancing, singing, catching goldfish, spongey toys, balloons, fans.
The girls will all wear their brightly coloured yukkkata ( cotton summer kimono).
Luckily for us, it is held on the sports ground across the street from our house.
We can watch the fireworks from the 2nd floor balcony.
It has taken me a long time to get here but now I understand that my kids’ memories of childhood will be so culturally different from my own and I am okay with it.

Welcome to the dark side, you'll find we're a friendly bunch.
